Building a subreddit from zero to compete with an established rival

The Challenge

The client wanted brand awareness and a real Reddit presence as part of a broader rebrand. The problem: one of their biggest competitors already had an established, active subreddit, and was winning the category by default. Starting from nothing meant competing for the same audience's attention from a standing start.

Our Approach

Rather than trying to out-shout the competitor on existing subreddits, we built and grew a dedicated subreddit for the client from the ground up — seeding it with real discussion, growing a genuine member base, and positioning it as a go-to resource in the category. This is still an active, ongoing engagement.

The Results

Ahrefs data on the subreddit, last 6 months:

Ahrefs Site Explorer data showing subreddit growth in organic traffic, keywords, and backlinks
Organic traffic climbed from near-zero to a steady upward trend as the subreddit gained authority.
